Jayapataka SwamiHis Holiness Jayapataka Swami was born in USA. He joined ISKCON’s San Francisco center on Ratha Yatra day and subsequently traveled to Montreal to meet Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada welcomed him and spontaneously invited Jayapataka Swami to join him for lunch. He was so moved by his newly found teacher that he vigorously participated in the pioneering activities of the fledgling movement. He received initiation from Srila Prabhupada in Montreal, Canada in 1968. In 1970, Srila Prabhupada sent him to India where he served as president of the ISKCON Kolkata center. About a year and half later Srila Prabhupada sent him to Mayapur where he received sannyasa initiation. He and the other foundational team members were entrusted with the responsibility of developing Mayapur with Srila Prabhupada‘s words “I have given you the kingdom of God. Now develop it and enjoy it.” Mayapur’s current state of development stands testimony to Jayapataka Swami‘s untiring efforts over the last four decades, along with the able assistance of other dedicated followers of Srila Prabhupada. At the time of his departure from this mortal world in 1977, Srila Prabhupada requested Jayapataka Swami to take up the responsibility of being an initiating spiritual master and to act as one of ISKCON’s governing body commissioners. Since then Jayapataka Swami has been executing these responsibilities. Currently, Jayapataka Swami continues to contribute to Mayapur’s development as the International Headquarters of ISKCON by serving as a co-director.
Quotes by His Holiness Jayapataka Swami

Yukta Vairagya

Yukta Vairagya – dovetailing the material propensity for higher purpose. So that way, we get the ultimate spiritual realization and the same time we are surviving in this material world. Lord Caitanya didn't say to do 'markat-vairagya'. Markat-vairagya means monkey renunciation, looking very renounced but actually very attached. Rather, do your material duties very responsibly and attached to Krishna – that is yukta-vairagya.

Mercy of Lord Gaura-Nitai

Once Srila Prabhupada was teaching, how to appreciate the mercy of Lord Gaura Nitai. The mercy is so great that even the rocks melt, even the birds and the animals they crying in separation. After hearing all the philosophy and after everything is explained, of course one can theoretically understand, but still, to really understand, what is love of Krishna? One has to taste it. One can explain what is mango? its, Vitamin-C content, fat content, protein content, carbohydrate content, this vitamin, that vitamin, this fibre, this type of skin, this thickness of skin, this colour, you can get all the details but even you can say this much sugar content this everything, but still it doesn't tell you how it taste like? If you taste it, then you will get another level of understanding what it the mango. What is devotional service has been explained by Rupa Goswami here in Caitanya Caritamrita, but to really understand we need to taste it, even a drop of it and that is possible only by the mercy of Gaura-Nitai because they are so much absorbed  in love of Krishna.

Vaishnava Aparadha

When we expose ourselves to severe vaisnava-aparadha, it is like pulling our devotional creeper out from the root. It doesn't get the nourishment then we systematically dry out, then we lose the taste for chanting, reading, deity worship, book distribution, what could be worse! We lose devotional service ultimately.

Following Marriage Vows

Krishna will be very pleased, if you follow your vows for Him. We hope that people will take it very seriously, when they make this marriage vows, "That's what I am doing for Krishna." There is a pastime in Padma-purana were someone was following their marriage vows and Krishna came and took them all Back to Godhead, because they followed for Krishna.

Building Proper Character

Every person of high character, the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras should engage in Brahmacharya life. Nowadays modern education neglects the character development as it doesn't give an opportunity to live as brahmachari. Actually everyone should live some years as bramacari properly trained up in the dharma. After that they may remain as bramachari or become sannyasi or they can marry and continue their activity as a devotee grhastha. This is the system handed down since time immemorial and followed in Krishna conscious movement also. This training of serving in the ashram is very important as it builds up the proper character.

Passport to Get Out of This Material World

Desire is most powerful and subtle. Due to desire people become president , go to jail, marry or divorce. Due to desire everything that  is happening is happening in this world with Krishna's sanctioning because everybody is desiring imperfectly no one is satisfied and the more there is uncontrolled material undirected desire the is the chaos. The passport to get out of this material world is pure desire which can be cultivated.

Lord Caitanya’s Unique Contribution

Pure devotional service is the satisfying activity for the soul. So Lord Caitanya was specifically preaching pure devotional service, this was his unique contribution. Even in the history of whole vedic culture it was very rare to find someone who is preaching pure devotional service, other than Narada-muni and some acharyas. Lord Caitanya was very strict he wanted his followers to maintain that integrity of preaching only pure devotional service. When some of his followers visit other people who are not preaching pure devotional service, he would abandon them.

Goal of Our Life

The Lord comes in a different form or partial form in order to deliver his devotees and generally he is always telling us how to surrender and how to serve him. If one directly serves the Lord with no condition, unconditionally "I am serving you Lord for Your pleasure, I want me to do what you want me to do". If we do things in that way the amazing thing is that the Lord becomes very pleased with us. The Supreme Lord has given us everything, what can we do for him? When we appreciate how great he is and feel grateful, that is the beginning of pure devotion. Pure devotion should be the goal of our life.

Team Efforts

The Lord is more pleased when we make a team effort. The idea is to work together whether we are god brothers or god sisters, same diksha guru or shiksha guru, cousin brothers and sisters working under Prabhupada's movement, the success will be how we cooperate together, that pleases Krishna. He sees that we are sacrificing our own ego, our own selfish interests to work together. Working together means always some adjustments everybody has the nature all the nature doesn't combine perfectly so we tolerate many things we try to see the good quality in others and we try to ignore the negative aspects one has for the higher purpose . This  is the integration through cooperation, through communication and understanding through love.

Receiving The Desired Things

Krishna does many things, if you want something constructive and something useful he wiil give it to you but then he will also see whether you are ready for it . So it takes time sometimes to get the blessings of Krishna, it doesn't come when we want it, they come when we are ready for it.
