Maharaj ParikshitMaharaj Parikshit was the son of Abhimanya and Uttara. He was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. He was protected by Lord Krishna when he was in the womb of Uttara from the fiery weapon released by Ashwathama. He grew up to become an excellent and a just King. He also stopped Kali from entering His kingdom. Once, when he had gone on an hunting expedition in the forest, being afflicted with thirst he entered a cottage and requested the sage to offer him some water. The sage was deep in meditation and he didn't realise that King Parikshit had come. Becoming angry, Maharaj Parikshit placed a dead snake on the sage's neck. When the sage's son, Shringi came to know about this incident, he was furious and he cursed Maharaj Parikshit to die within 7 days resulting due to the bite of the Takshak snake. When Maharaj Parikshit became aware of this, he immediately renounced everything and sat on the banks of River Ganga, where the great Sukadeva Goswami came and recited Srimad Bhagavatam.
